An Illustrated Guide to Ibn Arabi

In addition, the foundation has produced An Illustrated Guide to Ibn Arabi, published in 2022 by Pir Press and funded by the Radius Foundation. This book comprises over 200 pages, designed as two-page spreads presenting topics that are key to understanding Ibn al-ʿArabī’s vision; topics include dreams, transmission, the basmalah, and the feminine Divine in creation. This work springs from a collaboration between the translator and an artist of the Islamic imagination.

What People Are Saying

“This translation will undoubtedly be looked at as a great historical achievement by future generations, long after we are all gone. Dr. Eric Winkel’s task of translating the entirety of al-Futūḥāt is a remarkable and commendable feat, and is nothing short of being monumental.”

— Hany Talaat Ahmed Ibrahim

“This gift of these opening books of al-Futūḥāt to humanity is like the Divine Breeze which wafts over all of the creations, to give hope to humanity and to shine the Divine Light on the path to nearness to Allah.

With Dr Shu’ayb’s translation of the Futuhat, by the gift of the Merciful, no longer is there exclusive knowledge of this great work, which is a gift to all of humanity.

Please, for God’s sake and your own, get yourself a copy of al-Futūḥāt.”

— Murshid F. A. Ali El Senossi

“With this translation of al-Futūḥāt, a new period of Ibn ʿArabī studies will open up the sciences of Sufism, as a source of inspiration and fundamental research in our time for scientists, spiritual seekers, artists, and all who explore their inner experience in search of the meaning of Reality. These first two books of the total thirty-seven which the entire work comprises, rendered in their entirety for the first time in English, present an inspired translation that demonstrates a rigorous fidelity to the original, but nevertheless deeply explores the nuances of the lexical roots in the language of the Quran and the subtle interconnections and constant intertextual references of al-Futūḥāt, with its simultaneous levels of understanding.

I encourage the reader to begin your voyage of discovery of this vision with the attentiveness, spiritual courtesy, and receptivity which it requires and Ibn ʿArabī recommends to us, through the invaluable help provided by and in the company of this incomparable translation.”
